Yam Daisy (Microseris lanceolata)
The upper storey is dominated by Yellow Gum (Eucalyptus leucoxylon), Grey Box (Eucalyptus microcarpa), Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora) and Messmate Stringybark (Eucalyptus obliqua), with Mistletoe in some of these too.
The mid storey is predominantly Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha), Hedge Wattle (Acacia paradox) and Drooping Cassinia (Cassinia arcuata). A few new species of wattle are bravely attempting to establish themselves but the browsing pressure from kangaroos and wallabies is proving to be a challenge! The new wattles are Gold Dust Wattle (Acacia acinacea) and Snake Wattle (Acacia aculeatissima).
The lower storey changes quite a bit with the seasons, but we always have Wallaby Grass (Rytidosperma sp.), Grey Tussock-grass (Poa sieberiana) and Small Grass Trees (Xanthorrhoea minor). In spring we're treated to a purple carpet of Chocolate Lilies (Arthropodium strictum) and Wax-lip Orchids (Glossodia major), with little patches of Dwarf and Nodding Greenhood Orchids (Ptylostylus nana and Ptylostylus nutans). In winter we enjoy a stunning array of fungi and mosses, and the sinkholes (caused by tunnel erosion) fill up with rain, dotting the landscape with lots of natural bird baths if you look on the bright side!
Other species in the lower storey include:
Nodding Saltbush (Einadia nutans)
Cranberry Heath (Astroloma humifusum)
Peach Heath (Lissanthe strigosa)
Yam Daisy (Microseris sp.)
